Head style = posture & action: 90° ball hangs horizontal, roller rocks side to side, hover hook glides, drop shot suspends off a nose hook.

Head weight = depth & speed: Pick the lightest head that still reaches the fish and stays connected.

Bait material = buoyancy & durability: ElaZtech and TPE float horizontal and survive 50-fish days. PowerBait scents trigger inspectors. Deps keeled fins drive the dart.

When to Throw

Good Water

Any time you're chasing suspended fish on forward-facing sonar — cold-water Damiki, hover-strolling, mid-strolling, casting drop shot, or a full swim through open water.

Bad Water

Bass buried in shallow cover, dirty water, or situations that call for a moving reaction bait — this is the finesse suspended-fish system, not a search bait for stained water.

Head Types

Choose the head — it sets posture and action.

Dirty Jigs Guppy Swimbait Jig Head — the 90° workhorse.

90° ball head holds the bait perfectly horizontal, which is the whole game for suspended fish. Roller head rocks the bait side to side at crawling speeds — the mid-strolling head. Hover hook hides weight inside the bait for the subtlest look. Drop shot moves the weight off the bait entirely for the weightless look.

The weightless-look option

Weight to depth: 3/32–1/8 oz: shallower than 15 ft or the slowest hover-strolling crawl. 3/16 oz: 10–20 ft, the all-around start. 1/4 oz: 20–30 ft or wind. 3/8–1/2 oz: 30 ft+, fast fish, or Damiki holds where the bait must stay put in current.

ElaZtech minnows float horizontal on any head and survive stacks of fish per bait. The Z-Too comes off one page in five sizes: 3", 3.5", 4", 5", and 7". The 3"–4" range on a 1/0 head is the finesse default; the 5" and 7" on a 3/0 head when fish want a bigger meal. If you buy one bait off this page, it's this one.
