Curriculum
Foundations
The 55 technique guides on this site tell you how to fish a specific bait. This section is everything they assume you already know — the gear system underneath every setup, and the theory underneath every location decision. Eleven chapters, two halves: the gear system builds a complete, deliberately minimal arsenal (five rods, nine spools, seven knots, one sonar unit), and reading the water answers the questions that matter before any cast — where the fish are, why they're there, and how to approach them.
Read it front to back if you're building from scratch — the chapters are sequenced so each one stands on the last. If you're an experienced angler, each chapter also stands alone; jump to what you need. Either way, when a technique guide says "staging on secondary points" or "7' MH fast," this is where those words were defined.
Part One
The Gear System
Five chapters, one arsenal. Opinionated on purpose: instead of surveying everything on the market, it builds a specific minimal system — and tells you where premium money pays and where it's wasted.
Chapter 1
Rod Selection
Power, action, length, and the five-rod foundation.
Open chapterChapter 2
Reel Selection
Gear ratio, spool sizes, brakes, drag — reel pairings for every rod slot.
Open chapterChapter 3
Line Selection
The nine-spool system: three braids, five fluorocarbons, one copolymer.
Open chapterChapter 4
Knot Encyclopedia
The knots that cover every connection, each with its failure mode.
Open chapterChapter 5
Electronics & Sonar
2D CHIRP, down/side imaging, FFS — and the search–confirm–fish workflow.
Open chapterPart Two
Reading the Water
Six chapters that answer, in order: when, where, exactly where, how to approach, what they're eating, and how the water itself changes all of it.
Chapter 6
Seasonal Bass Behavior
The annual loop by water temperature, with NC calendar anchors.
Open chapterChapter 7
Reading Structure & Cover
The location vocabulary and the anatomy of a flooded-river reservoir.
Open chapterChapter 8
Bass Positioning Theory
Why a fish sits exactly where it sits, and which way it faces.
Open chapterChapter 9
Boat Positioning & Casting Angles
The last decision before the cast: approach distance, angles, discipline.
Open chapterChapter 10
Forage Identification
The NC reservoir menu and the real matching hierarchy.
Open chapterChapter 11
Water Clarity Guide
Clear, stained, and muddy playbooks — the volume knob on everything above.
Open chapterHow it connects to the rest of the site
- The technique guides assume this vocabulary and this gear system — each guide's rod, reel, and line specs map to the five-rod foundation and nine-spool system by design.
- The trip planner operationalizes Chapters 6 and 8: seasonal phase plus feeding windows into a day's plan.
- BFS is the deliberate exception to the casting/spinning split in Chapters 1 and 2, and lives as its own system.
