Line

60-Second Refresher

Horizontal glide: Weight is in the body, not the head. The bait hangs, glides, spirals, and pendulums instead of nose-diving.
Watch the line: Many bites are just pressure, slack, or a line jump — hi-vis braid is there to be seen.
Hover, don't travel: Apply light tension and barely shake the tip. The bait should stay in the zone.
Straighten the bait: A crooked bait loses its glide. Center it on the head; the action depends on a flat horizontal fall.

When to Throw

Good Water

Clear water with 3 ft+ visibility, suspended fish looking up, light wind or calm, forward-facing sonar fish that follow but won't commit, brush, timber, points, docks, and bait schools.

Bad Water

Heavy wind that prevents bait control or line watching, dirty water where fish can't track the subtle glide, thick grass or heavy wood that demands heavier line and a stronger hook.

Bait & Head System

Default · Pressured · Open-water search

Core Tackle Hover Rig — 3/32 oz / 1/0 (default)

Default to a 3/32 oz 1/0 head with a Flat Worm or Stroll Shad for suspended fish, brush piles, and most situations. Step up to the 1/8 oz 3/0 for a 5.25" Super Fluke when you need to search open water or trigger schoolers.

Common mistake — Rigging the hook through the nose like a Texas rig. Enter ~1/4" behind and below the nose, then thread shallow along the spine.

Retrieves

Hover · Dead-Stick · Power · Bottom Pop · Hover Fluke

Match the retrieve to fish mood. Hover and dead-stick are first calls on pressured/hot-water fish. Power hover triggers followers. Bottom pop makes the bait dart sideways on bottom-pinned fish. Hover Fluke is a clear-water cruiser / fry-guarder / schooler cadence.

Hover Retrieve

Hover

Default — cast past, sink above fish, light tension, barely shake

Bait should hover more than travel

Dead-Stick Hover

Dead-Stick

Pressured / hot-water fish that reject obvious movement

Hold slight tension and do almost nothing

Power Hover

Power

Triggering followers or fish pinned to bottom

1–2 quick reel turns, kill it, let it glide back down

Bottom Pop

Bottom Pop

Bottom-oriented fish

Snap on bottom — bait darts sideways like a fleeing minnow

Hover Fluke Jerkbait

Twitch-Twitch-Pause

Shallow clear-water cruisers, fry guarders, schoolers

Use the 5.25" Super Fluke

Where to Throw Each

Standing Timber

Keep it above fish and let it pendulum past their face.

Brush Piles

Hover over the top after fish refuse jerkbaits or Damiki rigs.

Main Points

Burn-and-fall around summer schools and bait.

Creek Channels

Target suspended fish roaming over deeper water.

Docks

Bluegill Flash or a Flat Worm around shade and bream.

Schoolers

Throw past the bust and glide it through or below the fish.

Cheat Sheet

Default / unknown

Core Tackle 3/32 oz 1/0 + Flat Worm Green Pumpkin or Stroll Shad — Hover retrieve.

Pressured fish following but not eating

Drop to 6 lb leader, Smoking Shad fluke or Black Flat Worm, dead-stick.

Schoolers / open-water bait

1/8 oz 3/0 + Super Fluke White Ice — Power Hover or Hover Fluke cadence.

Docks with bream

Super Fluke Bluegill Flash or a Flat Worm around shade.

Bottom-pinned fish on FFS

Bottom Pop — let it hit, snap once, glide back.

Bait won't glide flat

Re-rig — center the bait, hook shallow along the spine, weight seated inside.
