Structure & water
Duke Energy's largest reservoir, 34 miles long on the Catawba River. The north end (Mountain Creek, Marshall Steam Station area) is the closest section to Greensboro and the most productive bass water — clear, deep, abundant docks, brush piles, and standing timber. Blueback herring and alewife dominate; spotted bass have taken over the lake and now outnumber largemouth. Major MLF tournament destination. Heavy boat traffic on weekends.

Regulations
NC fishing license required. Largemouth/spotted bass: 14" minimum, 5/day aggregate. Striped bass: 4/day, 16" minimum (verify seasonally). No HP restriction; heavy boat traffic — fish early or weekdays.
Local tip
Norman is a spotted-bass lake — accept it, and bring spinning gear and dropshot rods. The 'big bass' average is lower than Hyco or Harris, but the numbers are massive. North-end brush piles in 20–25 ft fish well 12 months a year; learn to read Side Imaging and you'll never have a slow day. For winter trophies, the Marshall hot hole is the spot — get there before sunrise on a cold front and throw an A-rig.
