60-Second Refresher

Shake, don't hop: The head stays put while the tail tail quivers. Drag, pause, light shake.
Feel the bottom: Rock, shell, grass, brush, and mud all feel different. The shaky head is also a bottom-reading tool.
Rig straight & weedless: Thread the nose onto the keeper, line up the hook, and skin-hook the point through the body.
Match Z-Man to Z-Man: ElaZtech plastics need Z-Man-compatible heads and keepers for durability and fit.

When to Throw

Good Water

Clear to stained water, pressured fish, summer ledges, docks, grass edges, brush, rock, and any time bass hold tight to bottom.

Bad Water

Heavy matted vegetation, very dirty water with no visibility, fast current that drags it out of position, active topwater/reaction bite.

Jighead & Weight

1/8 · 3/16 · 1/4 · 3/8 oz

Z-Man SMH Shaking My Head + Ultimate ElaZtech HeadZ

Use the SMH for everyday weedless work in 1/8–1/4 oz. Switch to the Ultimate ElaZtech HeadZ when you need a deeper-water or magnum-worm option (1/4–3/8 oz). Match weight to depth and wind, not to the bait.

Bottom Contact

Offshore structure, deeper water, rock, shell

Stays connected in 10–18 ft

Heavy / Fast

Deep, ledges, magnum worms, wind, current

Use with Mag FattyZ on deep summer fish

Common mistake — Pairing ElaZtech with a non-Z-Man head — the worm tears off after one fish.

Worm Selection

Standard 6.5" · Magnum 7.25"

Z-Man SMH WormZ 6.5" + Mag FattyZ 7.25"

Default to the 6.5" SMH WormZ for numbers, finesse, and all-around use. Step up to the 7.25" Mag FattyZ when small fish are chewing on the standard worm, or when fishing deeper points, ledges, and brush.

Retrieves

Drag · Shake · Hop · Skip · Crawl · Deadstick

Match cadence to fish mood and location. Most bites come dragging slowly, pausing, or gently shaking in place.

Drag & Pause

All-Around

Default — make bottom contact, drag slowly, pause, light shake

Workhorse cadence

Shake, Don't Hop

Subtle

Pressured/finesse fish — keep the head still and quiver the tail

Avoid overworking it

Hop & Fall

Reaction

Pop free from grass, rock, brush — let it glide back down

Bite often on the fall

Skip Docks

Skip

Lighter heads + weedless rig — slide under shade and walkways

Use 1/8 oz for clean skips

Offshore Crawl

Heavy Drag

1/4–3/8 oz on rock, shell, ledges, points — bottom-reading

Keep the worm alive behind it

Deadstick

Wait

Pressured or inactive fish — let it sit longer than feels comfortable

Often the bite when nothing else works

Where to Throw Each

Docks

Skip into shade, posts, ladders, corners, and walkways.

Brush Piles

Fish the edges first, then crawl through the high-percentage limbs.

Grass Edges

Lighter heads — pop the bait free when it loads up.

Rock & Shell

Drag slowly and feel for transitions and isolated hard spots.

Points & Ledges

Heavier heads + Mag FattyZ when fish are deeper or feeding on bottom.

Highland Reservoir Banks

Clear-water staple around tapering points, bluffs, and pea gravel.

Cheat Sheet

Default / unknown

3/16 oz SMH + 6.5" WormZ Green Pumpkin — Drag & Pause.

Tough bite / pressured

Drop to 8 lb leader, 1/8–3/16 oz, deadstick the worm.

Heavy cover

10 lb leader, weedless rig, 3/16–1/4 oz.

Deep / offshore

1/4–3/8 oz HeadZ + Mag FattyZ Plum — Offshore Crawl.

Small fish chewing

Step up to the 7.25" Mag FattyZ for bigger bites.

Frayed line near jig

Retie after rough cover or a good fish — rock fuzzes fluoro fast.
