Line

10–15 lb Sufix 832 Neon Lime braid → 8 lb Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon leader

60-Second Refresher

Leader length: Cold water ~12". Warm water 18–24". Wacky drop shot 2–3 ft.
Weight rule: Use the lightest weight that still holds bottom contact.
Hook angle: After the Palomar, run the tag back through the hook eye so the hook stands straight out.
Do less: Keep the weight on bottom, shake/slack-line the bait, let the plastic move naturally.

When to Throw

Good Water

Pressured fish, clear-to-stained water, suspended bass on FFS, deep brush, rocky banks, bluff walls, and any time fish refuse moving baits.

Bad Water

Muddy water with no visibility, fish buried in matted cover, or high-percentage power-fishing windows where you should be moving fast.

Weight Selection

Cylinder · Teardrop · Universal Rule

Match weight shape to bottom

Cylinder weights slice through grass, milfoil, hydrilla, brush, and docks with minimal hang-ups. Teardrop weights give max bottom feel on rock, sand, and clean bottom. Always use the lightest weight that still maintains contact — go heavier if you can't feel bottom, lighter (or switch to a cylinder) if you snag constantly.

Three Drop Shot Rigs

Nose Hook · Texas Shot · Power Shot

Right rig for the cover and the fish

Nose Hook on open water, rock, and clean bottom. Texas Shot for grass edges, brush, wood, docks, and isolated cover. Power Shot when you need to drag through heavy grass, thick brush, or matted bottom for pressured largemouth.

Rig 01 — Nose Hook

Roboworm / Fat Shad Shape

Open water · rock · smallmouth · clean bottom

10–15 lb braid → 8 lb fluoro

Rig 02 — Texas Shot

Strike King Filler Worm 6" — Morning Dawn / Green Pumpkin / Blackberry Jam

Grass edges · brush · docks · isolated cover

VMC Finesse Neko 2/0 · cylinder weight · slow drag

Rig 03 — Power Shot

Sweet Beaver 4.20 — Green Pumpkin / Tramp Stamp / Dirty Sanchez

Heavy grass · thick brush · dirty bottoms · pressured largemouth

VMC Redline HD 4/0 · 14 lb fluoro · drag and hover

Common mistake — Overworking it. Keep the weight on bottom and let subtle shakes do the work — the bait moves more than you think.

Where to Throw Each

Rock / Boulders

Nose hook · teardrop weight reduces wedge-ups.

Grass Edges

Texas Shot or Power Shot · cylinder weight comes through cleaner.

Brush / Wood

Texas Shot around edges · Power Shot when it gets heavy.

Deep Suspended Fish

Long leader · shad profile · keep bait above bottom.

Bluff Walls

Vertical presentation — pause on every ledge.

Docks

Skip under, let it hang, shake on slack.
