Day 1 Floor Report

ICAST 2026 opened today, and this special edition covers five products that stood out from the Day 1 new-product showcase. The through-line, at least on Day 1: terminal tackle and rigging keep getting smarter. Two of the five picks below are jighead and weight designs solving specific presentation problems, and a third is a hook system rethink on an established lure category.
Day 1 Picks
1st Gen Fishing Top Roll Jighead

The most directly relevant Day 1 find for FFS anglers. The Top Roll rigs on top of the soft plastic rather than through the nose, which is what produces the rolling action that mid-strollers chase — normally you get that roll by tuning head weight and retrieve cadence, and it comes with bait spiraling as the tradeoff. This head's pitch is a precision-balanced design that keeps the roll and kills the spiral, plus dual wire keepers to lock the plastic down so one minnow survives more fish. Finished with a Mustad Ultra Point 90-degree black nickel hook.
If it does what it claims, this slots straight into the minnow-rigging conversation alongside standard 90-degree ball heads and hover-style heads — a third rigging geometry with its own action profile.
VERDICT: BUY when it hits retail — cheap enough to test against your current strolling heads, and the concept is sound.

Great Lakes Finesse is calling this the problem solver of the spybait category, and the problem they mean is the one every spybait angler knows: lost fish. Spybaits get eaten on light line with small trebles, and the landing ratio is famously ugly. The Stay-Pinned's answer is a patent-pending Top Breakaway Hook that deploys on the hookset — the hook separates from the body under load so a fighting fish is pulling against the hook, not levering against a rigid bait. GLF says it doesn't affect balance or action at rest, and the bait tracks perfectly horizontal on the retrieve with a Water-Through-Gill design adding subtle vibration to the shimmy.
Spybaiting has always been a clear-water, high-skill niche partly because of the landing problem. If the breakaway hook genuinely fixes it, that lowers the barrier to the whole technique.
VERDICT: WAIT — compelling concept, but breakaway hardware needs real-world proof before it earns a recommendation. Watch for early reviews post-show.

A patent-pending weight that combines three jobs in one piece of terminal tackle: it's a sinker, a waterproof rattle chamber that sounds off when you shake the rod or pull the line, and a rotating swivel eye. On a drop shot, the swivel eye works against line twist — the chronic annoyance of the rig. On a free rig, the rotating eye lets the weight slide and spin independently of the bait for a cleaner fall.
The dual-rig positioning is smart. Free rig weights with proper swivel eyes are still an under-served slot in most terminal walls, and adding sound to a drop shot weight is a cheap experiment at two bucks a weight.
VERDICT: BUY a handful when available — low cost, low risk, addresses a real drop shot irritation.

KastKing had the Kestrel Ultimate on display — billed as the world's lightest all-magnesium baitcaster at 4.4 ounces, purpose-built for finesse work. The spec sheet is a BFS wish list: 8.4:1 gear ratio, 11+1 bearings, the Flyout Arc Finesse (FAF) braking system, and a claimed casting floor down to 1/32 oz. Magnesium frame and side covers, aluminum main gear with an UltraDura 90 pinion, titanium shaft, aluminum spool.
The interesting part is the price positioning: $299.99 puts a legitimately spec'd BFS reel well under the Japanese-domestic options that have owned the ultralight-baitcaster ceiling. Whether the FAF brake handles 1/32 oz in real wind is the question that matters.
VERDICT: WAIT — strong spec-per-dollar story, but at $300 it needs hands-on brake reviews first. If you're BFS-curious, your existing finesse spinning setup already covers the same water.

A rigging, repair, and maintenance workstation: cushioned easy-clean work surface, built-in ruler along the edge, and magnetic parts trays that keep hooks, split rings, and small components from wandering off the bench — or off the deck. BUZBE built its name on modular tackle boxes, and this extends the system to the workspace itself.
Anyone who has re-rigged trebles on a rocking boat or chased a split ring across a garage floor understands the pitch immediately. It's an accessory, not a fish-catcher, but it's the kind of accessory that gets used weekly.
VERDICT: BUY if you do your own hook swaps and rigging at a bench — nice-to-have otherwise.
