Distance matters: The bait is subtle — give fish room to track it without seeing the boat.
Count it down: Let it sink to the depth fish are using. Above suspended fish, just over bottom for deep clear fish.
Slow & steady: Most bites come on a plain slow-to-medium wind while the props hum and the body rolls.
Bump for followers: If a fish tracks behind, add a tiny handle bump without stopping — that change often makes them commit.

When to Throw

Good Water

Clear to lightly stained water, light chop on the surface, suspended or roaming fish, tough/pressured bite, fish following jerkbaits or swimbaits.

Bad Water

Muddy water, heavy cover where trebles foul, strong wind that ruins depth control, fish buried in thick grass or brush, situations needing a power hookset.

Bait Selection

Default · Clear · Heavy / Deep · Bluegill · Cloudy

Duo Realis Spinbait 80 — throw it first

Default to the Spinbait 80 in Threadfin Shad. Switch to Ghost Minnow for slick clear days, BK Ayu G-Fix for wind/deeper fish, the 62 Alpha around bluegill, and the Spin John 80 as a cloudy/calm change-up.

Common mistake — Overworking it. The bait is supposed to be subtle — most bites come on a plain slow wind.

Leader & Hookset

Match leader to clarity & cover

6–8 lb for slick/clear/pressured fish. 8 lb default. 8–10 lb for grass edges, wind, bigger fish, the G-Fix/Alpha, or stained water. Light drag, reel-and-lean hookset, keep the rod loaded.

Where to Throw Each

Flats

5–10 ft is prime — especially 6–8 ft with roaming fish.

Clear-Water Points & Pockets

Suspended fish off the break, chasing small bait.

Grass Edges

Run above the grass tops or parallel the edge.

Docks, Riprap, Dams, Open Banks

Anywhere you'd swim a small swimbait, underspin, or finesse moving bait.

Baitfish Water

Best when bass key on threadfin, young shad, small minnows, or blueback-herring roamers.
