Reel

Line

15 lb Sufix 832 Braid Neon Lime → 8 lb Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon (10 lb around heavier cover or bigger fish)

60-Second Refresher

Thread the trailer straight: A crooked Easy Shiner rolls and kills the blade rhythm. Exit the hook dead-center along the back.
Check blade freedom: Before casting, make sure the swivel and blade spin freely and aren't fouled on the bait or line.
Match blade to forage: Silver for herring/threadfin and clear water. Gold for bluegill/perch, overcast, slight stain, docks, and grass.
Slow roll wins: Cast, count it down, and reel just fast enough to keep the blade turning. That's the main retrieve.

When to Throw

Good Water

Clear-to-lightly-stained water, herring or shad lakes, suspended fish on main-lake points, winter and cold-front fish that still want a swimming bait.

Bad Water

Heavy cover where a treble or single hook with blade hangs constantly, very dirty water with no visibility, fish glued to bottom in mud.

Coolbaits "The Down Under" 3/8 oz · 2/0

Silver blade is the all-around clear-water choice. Switch to gold on overcast days, slight stain, grass edges, docks, or when fish are sunfish/perch oriented.

Retrieves

Countdown · Pendulum · Bottom Tick

Steady swim is the bread and butter. Use pendulum for FFS fish; bottom-tick in winter.

Countdown Steady Swim

Default

Cast, count it down, slow-roll back — the main retrieve

Keep the blade turning

Pendulum / FFS Retrieve

Suspended / FFS

Cast past suspended fish, let it fall toward them, reel just enough to stay above

Sight-fish offshore

Bottom Tick

Winter

Cold water — let it touch bottom occasionally, then lift and swim just off bottom

Trigger lethargic fish

Where to Throw Each

Main-Lake Points

Count down over 8–20 ft and swim through suspended spots.

Herring / Shad Schools

Fire past the bait and swim through the edge of the school, not straight into the middle.

Docks & Grass Edges

Bluegill Flash + gold blade when fish are cover-oriented.

Winter / Cold-Front Fish

Slow-roll the silver blade and keep the bait close to fish depth.

Cheat Sheet

Default combo

3/8 oz 2/0 Snow White / Silver Blade + 4" Easy Shiner Tennessee Shad.

Herring lakes

Silver blade + Pro Blue Red Pearl over points, timber, bait balls.

Docks / grass / bluegill

Gold blade + Bluegill Flash.

Wind / clouds / more visibility

Silver or gold blade + Original Sexy Shad.

FFS suspended fish

Pendulum retrieve — let it fall toward the fish, reel just enough to stay above.

Trailer rolling

Re-rig straight — the blade needs a true-swimming trailer to spin right.
