Reel

Line

60-Second Refresher

Rig straight: Follow the centerline and exit the hook cleanly. A crooked bait rolls, twists line, and loses action.
Lightest weight that holds bottom: If you can't feel bottom, go heavier. If it crashes or snags constantly, go lighter.
Lean & sweep: Most bites are a tick or sudden load. Keep winding, let the rod load, then sweep — don't crack it like a jig.
Hook size matters: Match hook length so the point exits where the tail begins to taper. Too long stiffens the tail; too short hurts hookups.

When to Throw

Good Water

Fish keyed on shad/perch/bluegill/minnows, clear-to-stained water, rocky points and current breaks, grass edges, schoolers, open water, suspended fish.

Bad Water

Heavy floating trash, matted vegetation with exposed hooks, dead-still high-pressure days with no bait around.

Jighead & Rigging

Open · Suspended · Stained · Cover

Match the head to the job. Ball head for rock and bottom contact, minnow head for hover strolling, underspin for flash in stain, belly-weighted hook for weedless cover. Add a tiny drop of super glue on the keeper to lock the bait.

Ball Head

Open Hook

Rock, rivers, bottom contact, open water

Simple, natural, easy to feel bottom

Minnow Head

Horizontal

Mooch Minnow, hover strolling, suspended fish, FFS

Keeps the bait level on horizontal retrieves

Underspin

Flash + Vibration

Wind, stained water, schooling fish

Adds drawing power

Belly-Weighted Hook

Weedless

DieZel MinnowZ, vegetation, laydowns, heavy cover

Comes through cover clean

Super-Glue Hack

Maintenance

Locks the bait on the keeper

Fish don't tear it down as easily

Hook Size & Weight
