Line

60-Second Refresher

Stands up: ElaZtech + mushroom head = the worm stands up off bottom between drags. That's the trigger.
Use the lightest head that holds bottom: 1/15 oz in calm/shallow, 1/10 oz default, 1/6 oz in wind/deeper water.
Hi-vis braid is for watching: Half the bites are pressure or a sideways jump on the slack — watch the line, not the rod.
Match Z-Man to Z-Man: ElaZtech needs Z-Man-compatible keepers; other brands tear off in one fish.

When to Throw

Good Water

Cold or hot water with sluggish bass, post-front bluebird sun, clear-to-stained pressured lakes, rocky banks and points, bluffs, gravel, hard-bottom flats.

Bad Water

Heavy grass and matted vegetation, muddy water with no visibility, fast current that drags it out of position, active topwater bite, spawn flats with bedding fish.

Jig Head System

Open hook · Weedless · ElaZtech-specific

Z-Man Nedlockz HD · Pro Shroomz · Finesse Bulletz

Default to the open-hook Nedlockz HD around clean rock and gravel. Switch to the Pro Shroomz weedless mushroom around docks, brush, and laydowns. Use the Finesse Bulletz (Texas-style) for sparse grass edges and any time the bait drags weeds.

Z-Man Nedlockz HD 1/15 oz or 1/6 oz · Green Pumpkin

Z-Man Nedlockz HD

Open rock, gravel, hard bottom — maximum hookup

Best penetration on the lightest head

Z-Man Pro Shroomz Weedless 1/10 oz or 1/6 oz · Green Pumpkin

Z-Man Pro Shroomz Weedless

Docks, brush, laydowns, mixed cover

Weedless mushroom for cover work

Z-Man Finesse Bulletz Weedless 1/15 oz or 1/6 oz · Green Pumpkin

Z-Man Finesse Bulletz Weedless

1/15 oz or 1/6 oz · Green Pumpkin

Sparse grass, weed edges, dirty bottoms

Bullet profile slides through grass

Common mistake — Pairing ElaZtech with a non-Z-Man head — the keeper rips out and the worm slides down on the first bite.

Retrieves

Short Hop · Slow Drag · Dead Stick

Pick the retrieve by mood. Short Hop for active fish, Slow Drag for cold/pressured, Dead Stick for extreme cold or sight-fishing pressured cruisers.

Cast & Sink on Slack

Slack-Line Fall

First call — lower rod, let it fall semi-slack, watch hi-vis braid for ticks/jumps

Many bites happen on the initial drop

Short Hop

Lift 6–12" · Pause 1–2s

Active fish, 50–60°F+, search retrieve

Keep bottom contact, reel slack on the fall

Slow Drag

Inch Forward · Pause 5+ s

Cold or pressured fish — grind it across bottom

Barely move the rod — let the worm stand up

Dead Stick

Cast and Wait 30–60 s

Extreme cold, sight-fish, post-front lockjaw

Bait stands straight up — deadly in winter

Where to Throw Each

Rocky Bottom / Points

2–20 ft — the Ned's primary habitat.

Current Breaks / Eddies

Look for surface foam lines on river-influenced lakes.

Bluff Walls

10–30 ft vertical drops — let the bait pendulum down.

Docks / Pilings

Use the weedless Pro Shroomz to skip into shade.

Sparse Grass Edges

Finesse Bulletz on the outside edge and pockets.

Hard Bottom Flats

4–12 ft transition areas between sand, gravel, and rock.

Cheat Sheet

Default / unknown

Nedlockz HD 1/10 oz + Finesse TRD Coppertreuse — Short Hop.

Cold water under 50°F

1/15 oz Bulletz + TRD Green Pumpkin — Slow Drag or Dead Stick.

Docks and brush

Pro Shroomz 1/10 oz + TRD The Deal — skip and shake.

Craws on rock

Nedlockz HD + TRD CrawZ Green Pumpkin — drag and pause.

Wind / 15 ft+

Step up to 1/6 oz so you can still feel bottom.

Bait keeps sliding down

Switch to a Z-Man-compatible head — ElaZtech demands the right keeper.
